Raw materials are weighed and fed into the mixer for uniform blending. After mixing, materials are delivered via an auger with an anti-bridging device to a distributor, which evenly allocates feed to two flat die pellet mills. The material enters the pelleting chamber through a frequency-controlled feeder, forming pellets that are conveyed by belt to a buffer bin and then to a cooling and screening system.
The cooled pellets are separated to remove fines and oversized particles before being sent to the automatic packing machine for weighing, sealing, and bagging. The cooling and screening system adopts an automatic discharge structure. The final pellet temperature is within 3–5°C above ambient, ensuring excellent dryness and storage stability.

| Output Capacity | 1–3 tons per hour (TPH) |
| Design Features of Production Line | Adopts the design of mixing powder and pellet in separate stream |
| Feed Type | feed powder for little poultry; Pellets for pigs, cows, and other animals |
| Number of Worker | 2+ |
| Staff Requirements | 1. Trained in operation & safety 2. Know basic equipment check 3. Follow rules & formulas |
Raw materials enter the hammer mill, then move to the mixer for 2–3 minutes of uniform blending. After that, materials are lifted to a hopper, then fed via a variable-speed auger to the conditioner on the ring die pellet mill, where they are mixed with steam for animal feed production. The pellets are cooled for 30 minutes in a counterflow cooler, then screened to remove fines. Qualified pellets go directly to packaging, while oversized particles are crushed and recycled.
💡 Key Features:
- Ring die system ensures high pellet density and smooth surface finish.
- Variable-frequency conditioner improves steam utilization by 20%.
- Counterflow cooler keeps pellet temperature within ≤5°C of ambient.
- Optional PLC control cabinet for automated operation.
- Compact structure, short installation time.

Small Feed Mill Layout Design
With a well-designed feed mill plant process and high-efficiency equipment configuration, operators can save 25–35% of feed purchasing costs while improving feed freshness, quality, and formulation flexibility.
Different layouts can be flexibly designed according to the customer’s site conditions, building height, and investment budget to ensure smooth production lines, minimized energy consumption, and convenient operation — which is the key in small feed plant planning and design.
For a 1–3 TPHsmall feed mill, GEMCO provides two efficient feed mill plant layout solutions:
Horizontal Layout
Best for single-floor buildings with enough width but limited height. All major equipment — grinder, mixer, pellet mill, cooler, screener, and packer — are arranged in sequence on one level, with a clear and efficient feed mill production process flow:
Raw Material → Crushing → Mixing → Pelleting → Cooling & Screening → Packaging → Finished Product
✅ Advantages:
- Straightforward process flow, no material cross-contamination
- Low energy loss: shorter conveying distance
- Easy installation and maintenance
- Lower civil construction cost and faster setup
Vertical Multi-Layer Layout
Designed for sites with limited ground space or high land costs. Equipment is arranged vertically according to process flow, utilizing gravity to transport materials downward — reducing energy use and mechanical wear.
⚙️ Typical Configuration:
Top Level: Raw material bins → Middle Level: Grinding & Mixing → Lower Level: Pelleting & Cooling → Ground Floor: Packaging & Storage
✅ Advantages:
- Saves up to 30% of floor area
- Energy-efficient gravity feeding
- Higher automation and continuous operation
- Cleaner environment, separated zones for production & packaging
Layout Design Principles of Pellet Mill for Animal Feed
When designing the layout of 1-3 tons feed mill, we follow the following three principles:
- 1️⃣ Clear Division, Smooth Moving Line
Clearly divide the raw material area, crushing area, mixing area, granulation and cooling area, packaging area, finished product storage area, to reduce cross operation. Raw materials and finished products are at least 5-8 meters apart, to avoid secondary pollution.
- 2️⃣ Vertical Layout Priority
Recommended use of “layered layout”: the upper feeding, lower discharge, make full use of gravity conveying, reduce the number of lifting equipment. This design reduces power consumption by 10-15% and reduces wear and tear on conveying pipes.
- 3️⃣ Reserve Space for Production Expansion
On the basis of the initial 1-3 tons production capacity, we reserve the interface to expand to 5 tons/hour (e.g. the second granulator, additional mixing bin). Adapt to the later expansion of production capacity or increase the demand for premix production unit.
